Abstract

An interesting deviation from the behavior of other quinones was observed in studying the properties of sodium 1, 2-phenanthrenequinone-4-sulfonate, VI. The substance was prepared from the hydroquinone, VII, which, in turn, resulted from the addition of sodium bisulfite to 1, 2-phenanthrenequinone. Judging by the properties of other similar structure, one might expect that VI would react
