Abstract

Abstract: The reaction of singlet oxygen, generated photochemically by sensitization, with tetrathioethylenes 4 between-78 and+ 30 has been shown to afford dithiooxalates 6 and disulfides 7, instead of the expected dithiocarbonates 8. Control experiments showed that 4 did not react with molecular oxygen in the dark or on irradiation in the absence of sensitizer.
