Abstract The 19 F NMR spectra of m-and p-[(Me 3 Si) x CH (3-x)] C 6 H 4 F (x= 0-3) compounds have been recorded. The σ 1 and σ UR constants for the (Me 3 Si) x CH (3-x) groups which can be derived from the 19 F chemical shifts are of doubtful validity, and the results suggest this method of obtaining σ 1 and σ UR constants may not be applicable to substituents of this type.
