The introduction of an o-carborane to the 4-and 5-position of the phenyl ring of a ppy ligand in heteroleptic (C∧ N) 2Ir (acac) complexes gave rise to red and blue shifts of the phosphorescence band, respectively, compared to that of (ppy) 2Ir (acac). PhOLED devices incorporating the 4-carborane substituted Ir (III) complex as a phosphorescent emitter displayed good performance with green phosphorescence.
