Abstract

Experiments are reported which establish that 0-coordination of the title urea to nickel (I1) promotes nucleophilic attack of solvent on the otherwise unreactive carbonyl group of the urea. The rate of the nonenzymatic degradation of urea in aqueous media is independent of pH between pH 2 and pH 12, falling below pH 2 and rising above pH 1 2.'~~ It has been demonstrated at pH values of 7, 13, and 14 that the reaction is an elimination, yielding as ...
