Abstract: Electron-withdrawing substituents in meta and para positions increase whereas electron-donating substituents decrease the dissociation constants and the second-order rate constants for neutralization of l-phenyl-lnitroethanes by hydroxide ion in 50%(vol) dioxane-water.
