The photolytic addition of H2S to dimethyldiallylsilane yields l, l-dimethyl-l-sila-5- thiacyclooctane. Oxidation of the sulfide yields the corresponding sulfone, which can be directly converted via a modified Ramberg-Backlund reaction into l, l-dimethyl-l-sila-4- cycloheptene.
