Abstract

The total synthesis of erythronolide B (l), the biosynthetic progenitor of all of the erythromycins, has previously been reported.',* Herein we describe the first total synthesis of erythronolide A (2), the aglycone corresponding to the medically important antibiotic erythromycin A.
