Abstract

Conclusion The reaction between gaseous hydrogen chloride and gaseous 2- methylpropene to yield gaseous 2-chloro-2-methylpropane at total pressures of less than 1 atm is surface catalyzed and follows a pathway consonant with the Rideal-Eley mechanism. Hydrogen chloride (gas) and 2-methylpropane (gas) are both adsorbed and, while adsorbed, react to form 2-chloro-2-methylpropane. The kinetics are entirely normal for this ...
