Conclusion The reaction between gaseous hydrogen chloride and gaseous 2- methylpropene to yield gaseous 2-chloro-2-methylpropane at total pressures of less than 1 atm is surface catalyzed and follows a pathway consonant with the Rideal-Eley mechanism.
