A ring-closing metathesis (RCM) and a ring-opening metathesis (ROM) are combined in a domino process giving access to a variety of aza-and oxacyles, equipped with highly functionalized side chains, starting from readily accessible cyclopentenyl or cycloheptenyl ethers and amines.
