Abstract The condensation reaction between benzamide and cyanoacetic acid in acetic anhydride at temperatures of about 100° leads to the formation of 4-hydroxy-6-imino-1, 3- oxazine (I). Derivatives of benzamide and monosubstituted cyanoacetic acids are also suitable reactants.
