Abstract

When verbenone (I) in cyclohexane is irradiated with ultraviolet light it is converted into the isomeric ketone chrysanthenone (11). In ethanol, wet ether, or ethereal ammonia there are obtained, in addition, the esters (XI) and (XII; X= OEt), the acid (XII; X= OH), and the amide (XII; X= NH,) respectively.
