Abstract

Microbial-mediated reactions are a useful means of preparing chiral intermediates for synthetic studies.'The enantioselective microbial hydrogenation of the double bond in or P- methyl-a,@-unsaturated aldehydes3 (or alcohols or acetals) is well documented: Common baker's yeast appears to be particularly versatile and is easy to use for this purpose.
