A “one-pot” procedure to obtain α-phenylseleno-β-amino esters from the corresponding enoates is described. The target compounds are useful synthetic tools and direct precursors of new α-phenylseleno-β-lactams, which can be easily transformed into their α-alkylidene analogues.
