Scope and limitation of the Ti"-induced coupling reaction for the sterically congested carbonyl compounds tert-butyl methyl ketone (4), tert-butyl ethyl ketone, and pivalaldehyde are discussed. The new olefin 5 has been prepared; the unusual chemical and physical behavior has been described by its inherent steric strain.
