Abstract

(a) To a stirred solution of 3-bromothiophene (1.5 g, 9.2 mmol) in dry ether (15 mL) at −78 °C was added t-BuLi (5.95 mL of 1.7 M in hexane, 10 mmol) dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred at −78 °C for 30 min. Sulfur dioxide gas was bubbled in slowly for 10 min and the reaction mixture was allowed to attain room temperature slowly.
