Summary: Protected 2-hydroxy-and 2, 3-epoxycyclohexanones provided (2)- ethylidenecyclohexanes in a highly stereoselective manner upon their reactions with ethylidenetriphenylphosphorane in both the lithium base and the lithium-free conditions of the Wittig reaction.
