Abstract

The structurally novel alkaloid epibatidine 1 was isolated from the Ecuadoran frog Epipedubates tricoZur.1 Its biological evaluation has shown potent analgesic efficacy by a non- opioid mode of action192 and its total synthesis is consequently of wide interest.
