Five ebselen and three acyclic ebselen derivatives were synthesized. These compounds were screened for their glutathione peroxidase (GSH Px)-like activity and scavenging activity against 1, 1-diphenyl-2-pycryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) and peroxynitrite radical.
