Abstract

BROMINATION in the 2-position occurs when p-nitrodimethylaniline is treated with hydrobromic acid and nitrous acid at O", the excess acid being 5N. The brown substance precipitated is a perbromide of 2-bromo-4-nitrodimethylaniline hydrobromide, the orientation of which was established by Norton and Allen (Ber., 1885, 18, 1996). 2-Bromo- 4nitrodimethylaniline perbromide, treated with hot aqueous alcohol, gives 2-bromo-4-ni~ ...
