Abstract

Abstract A new method is given for the preparation of aromatic isothiocyanates from the corresponding dithiocarbamates. The latter compounds are converted into S- (carboxymethyl)-dithiocarbamates, which spontaneously decompose at pH 7 in the presence of certain heavy metal ions to yield isothiocyanates. The reaction mechanism is discussed.
