Abstract

11. When the reactions were conducted under the same conditions as for reaction 1 (method A), there were unexpectedly obtained 1, 3-keto acetates 3 in addition to normal products 2 (entries 1, 3, 5, and 9). Furthermore, it was found that employment of carbonyl compounds in excess (method B) resulted in the exclusive formation of 3 except for 3-(pheny1thio) propionaldehyde and benz-aldehyde (entries 4 and 6).
