Abstract

The reaction of anthranilic acid (111) and 2-isothiocyano-2-methyl-4-pentaiione (IV) has been reported'to yield a compound Cl4HI4S20S which may be represented by either I or 11. Although I was preferred on the basis that on treatment with sodium hydroxide, the thiolactone ring opens up to give mercapto acid (VIII), additional information regarding the structure seemed desirable.
