Abstract

The synthesis of quinoline-2, 3-dicarboxylic acid derivatives can be accomplished by the Friedlander reaction of 2-aminobenzaldehydes with diethyl oxaloacetate112 or by an analogous reaction that utilizes the same aldehydes and acetylenedicarboxylic acid ester^.^ However, the difficulties encountered in preparing and storing 2-aminobenzaldehydes have severely limited the application of these synthetic procedures.
