The well known synthesis of 2-methylthiazoles by condensation of thioacetamide with a- haloketones2 has been employed to prepare thiazole bases from 3-bromotetrahydro-4- pyrone, 3-bromotetrahydro-1-thio-4-pyrone and 2-bromotetrahydro-1-thio-3-pyrone.
