Abstract

A series of novel 6-nitro substituted indolospirobenzopyrans are reported. The effects of substitution on their photoreversibility are investigated by: synthesising derivatives that possess sterically hindering (with regard to the spiropyran-opening↔ closing) groups contained within the spirocyclic skeleton.
