Abstract

A number of glycines containing heterocyclic rings, DL-a-thienyl, DL-a-thiazolyl, and DL-a- isothiazolyl and their mono-or dimethyl derivatives, have been prepared as precursors of the title compounds. The two main preparative routes involved reduction of the glyoxalic acid oximes (or their esters) and application of the Baumgarten reaction to the cyanomethyl derivatives.
