Abstract

The mechanism of electrochemical cleavage of the carbon-halogen bond is well established. 1 Overall, the reduction consumes two electrons, which are transferred in two steps (Scheme 1). In the first (and potentialdetermining) step, one electron is transferred and the carbon-halogen bond is broken to produce a free radical.
