Reactions of typical disulfides were studied with five sulfur ylides and two related species. The oxo ylide MeZS+(O) CHz-(1) reacted with diphenyl disulfide (2) to give the bissulfide insertion product (PhS) zCHz (8) but in low yield and in a molar percentage of product from 5 to 22%.
