Abstract

Abstract The strained 2-(1, 2, 5-triphenyl-1λ 5-phosphol-1-ylidene) acenaphthen-1-one (4), formed by thermolysis of 2-diazoacenaphthen-1-one (1) in the presence of copper and 1, 2, 5-triphenyl-phosphole, undergoes smooth decomposition in diphenyl ether at 175 C to give 7, 10-diphenyl-fluoranthene (9). Cross-over experiments, eg with added 1, 2, 5-tri (p-tolyl)-1 λ 5-phosphole 1-oxide, show that this reaction proceeds via intramolecular rearrangement ...
