Abstract

Copper (I) chloride dissolved in DMSO is effective for Wurtz-type condensation of benzal bromide or dichlorodiphenylmethane affording trans-stilbene and tetraphenylethylene in preparative yields. The reaction of cinnamylidene chloride gives p-terphenyl in addition to all trans-1, 6-diphenyl-1, 3, 5-hexatriene.
