Abstract

We have recently reported on the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions of 4,5-dihydroimidazolium ylides 2, 1 formed in situ from dihydroimidazoles 1 and an alkylating agent, and the application of the adducts in a synthesis of optically active pyrrolidines (Scheme 1). 2., and As part of this programme, we have demonstrated an intramolecular cycloaddition using an α-haloester dipolarophile to give adducts 3. 3 We wished to extend this latter process to α-haloketone ...
