Abstract

Oxidation and the annellation effect point to a fixed double bond in 1: 2, 7: 8- dibenzochrysene (II). This is not so in the higher benzologues (V and VII) which are closely related to the hydrocarbons (IV and VI). Regular annellation effects are obtained in passing from dibenzochrysene to the pyrene benzologues (VIII and IX).
