Base-catalyzed dimerization of a-methylstyrene has been studied by Kolobielski and Pines using sodiumbenzyl sodium as a catalyst. 8 The dimeric product consisted mainly of VI and of a small amount of VII; cumene was also obtained as part of a hydrogen transfer reaction.
