Abstract 1, 3-Butadiene reacts with carbon dioxide in the presence of a pyridinenickel (0) system to form either mono-or di-carboxylates, depending on the temperature. By this method C 9-mono-or C 18-dicarboxylic acids can be prepared stoichiometrically in good yields.
