Abstract

We describe a convenient, one step synthesis of MeSnIs from the heterogeneous oxidative methylation of SnS by Me1 in H20 under mild anaerobic or aerobic conditions. The monomethyltin(1v) is the only organotin species obtained by this process, whereas both Me4Sn1 and Me2Sn122 have been reported as sole products of the reaction between tin metal and MeI.
