Abstract

The use of radical reactions in organic synthesis became widespread about three decades ago yet, despite this popularity, most of the synthetic applications have involved carbon centred radicals, while heteroatom based radicals remained essentially just curiosities. 1, 1a, 1b and 1c This limited attention stems in part from a lack of convenient and general methods for generating these species, and perhaps a certain absence of a feel regarding their reactivity.
