Abstract

With the pentaethylene glycol, the 2: 2 macrocycle 13 was also isolated in an unexpectedly high yield (8%). Fragmentation and oligomerization of these polyethylene glycols are well documented, 14 even when the reaction conditions are regulated at less than 140 C.
