Abstract N-Alkylglucosylamines and carbon disulphide react to give 3-alkyl-5-hydroxy-5-(D- arabino-tetrahydroxybutyl) thiazolidine-2-thiones (I), which dehydrate to the corresponding Δ 4-thiazolines, isolated only as tetraacetates.
