Abstract: A marked temperature dependence of the chemical shifts of a number of substituted tetramethylenehalonium ions, particularly 1, l-dimethyltetramethylenechloronium ion, has been observed. The dependence has been explained in terms of shifts in an equilibrium between the halonium ions and appropriate carbonium ions.
