Abstract

The aminomethylation of (I) with these amino acids was studied under a variety of conditions. We have shown [!, 2] that glycine does not condense with paraformaldehyde and p-substituted acetophenones at pH 6.0-7.0, whereas alanine under the same conditions affords the aminoketones in yields of up to 12%. In acid solution, the yields reach 30%.
