Abstract

Abstract Sodium chlorate/hydrochloric acid mixtures were used to chlorinate activated arenes and the-position of ketones. This chlorination method was used to produce selectively mono-, di-, and trichlorinated compounds by controlling the molarity of sodium chlorate. This reagent proved to be much more efficient and easier to handle than chlorine gas.
