In connection with a nmnber of eynthetlc problem8 lylw under study in these Laboratoriee, it became apparent that an efficient procees in which an aldehyde RCHO can be transformed by chain extension to an acetylene ROCH or RDCR'would be of considerable value. This note reporta a simple and expeditious method for effecting this change, which is baaed on the scheme outlined in equation 1.
