Abstract

Triphenylcyclopropene is converted to hexaphenylbenzene on treatment with potassium amide in liquid ammonia, but with sodium amide or lithium amide a simple dimer can be intercepted, triphenylcyclopropyltriphenylcyclopropene (Ia). This dimer is also formed when triphenylcyclopropene is heated in refluxing xylene.
