Abstract: The selective and facile molecular oxygen oxidation of dialkyl sulfides to their sulfoxides can be effectively catalyzed by ncutral ruthenium (I1) complexes of the type cis-or fr~ ns-R u X~(M e~ S 0)~ The results of kinetic studies for two of these catalysts, cis- RuCI,(Me, SO), and truns-R~ Br~(Me~ SO)~, show that these catalytic oxidations are first order with respect to total catalyst concentration, less than first order in oxygen ...
