Abstract

In 1940, Ramberg and Backlund demonstrated that exposure of acylic a-halo sulfones to the action of 2 N potassium hydroxide resulted in the production of alkenes with the concomitant ejection of hydrogen halide and sulfur dioxideU3 Significantly, the new double bond unequivocally supplanted the sulfonyl group in each example studied.
