O-Carboxylation of the alcohol (ROH) occurred to give alkali alkyl carbonate in a good yield when carbon dioxide was introduced into the mixture of an alkali salt of a weak acid, alcohol, and acetone (or THF) at room temperature under atmospheric pressure.
