Abstract

2, 4-, 2, 5-, and 2, 7-Dinitrofluorenones (I a, I b, and I c) were converted to 2, 4-, 2, 5-, and 2, 7-dinitro-9-fluorenyl p-toluenesulfonates (IV a, IV b, and IV c) through the corresponding 9- diazo compounds (III a, III b, and III c). These diazo compounds were converted directly to the three dinitro-9-fluorenols (VI a, VI b, and VI c) and 9-fluorenyl acetates (V a, V b, and V c).
