Abstract

Abstract Methyl and ethyl-[(substituted phenylthio) methyl]-3-nitrobenzoates and the corresponding non-nitro derivatives have been synthesized and their structures proven. The action of 5% sodium hydroxide solution on these esters gave the corresponding diaryl disulfides besides 3-nitro-4-methylbenzoic acid or 4-methylbenzoic acid.
