Abstract

5-Phospho-a-~-ribofuranosyl1, 2-cyclic monophosphate was synthesized from 5-phospho-a- ~-ribofuranosyl-1-pyrophosphate. Alkaline hydrolysis of the cyclic monophosphate yielded the hitherto unreported D-ribofuranceyl 2, 5-bisphosphate and aD-ribofuranosyl1, 5- bisphosphate(a natural metabolite in red blood cells, and a primer for phosphopentomutase) .
